1922 WSB/740 signs on (Atlanta Journal)

         WGM/710 signs on (Atlanta Constitution)

1923 WGM closes up. Transmitter donated to Georgia Tech

1924 Georgia Tech starts WBBF/710

1929 WBBF becomes WGST/1110

1928 WGST moves to 890

1931 WJTL/1370 goes on air (Oglethorpe University)

1935 WJTL becomes WATL

1937 WAGA/1450 signs on

1939 WTFI/1450 Athens and WFDV/1500 Rome go on air

1941 THE BIG SWITCH (AM radio) WSB-750(NBC) WGST-920(CBS) WATL-1400(MBS) WAGA-1480(Blue)

1945 WATL moves to 1380

1946 WFOM/1230 starts in Marietta

1947 WEAS/1010 WCON/550WBGE-95.5FM WBGE-1340AM sign on

                 WHMA-FM 100.3 signs on in Anniston AL (has impact later)

                 WWGC-FM 104.1 goes on in Lagrange GA (has impact later)

                 WCOH-FM 96.7 goes on in Newnan GA (has impact later)

1948 on the air-new WQXI-790 WABE-90.1FM WAGA-103.3FM WERD-860 WRGA-106.5(Rome)

                 WLET-FM 106.1 goes on air in Athens GA (has impact later)

1949 on the air-new WATL-97.5 WPKM-101.5 WSB-104.5 WCON-98.5 WFWM-99.9 WCON-550AM  WEAS-96.7 WTJH-1260 WGLS-970 WGST-94.1FM WERD-860 WGAA-96.1(Cedartown)

1950 WCON AM/FM sign off the air because of Atlanta Journal/Atlanta Constitution merger (WCON-TV never makes it to air) WCON-AM 550 later re-assigned to Gainesville. WCON-FM later is 98.5 New WCON transmitter becomes WSB-TV2 in 1951

1954 WATL becomes WAOK/1380

1955 WBGE becomes WAKE/1340 AM + 95.5FM

                 new stations- WGKA-92.9 WAVQ-94.9 WAOK-1380  WBIE/1050 WGKA/1600 WLAK/WJFF/104.1 Lagrange

                 WLAQ/870 Rome moves to 1410 (Rome News-Tribune)

1956 WSB-FM 98.5 returns

                 WYZE-1480 signs on

1959 WAGA AM/FM becomes WPLO AM-590/FM-103.3

1960 WKLS-FM 96.1 moves from Cedartown

                WBIE-FM 101.5 signs on in Marietta

1961 FCC approves FM Stereo

1962 WSMA-1550 signs on in Smyrna (later WYNX)

                WAVQ-94.9 FM signs on (sister of WAVO-AM)

1963 WLTA-99.7 signs on

                 WDOL-FM signs on in Athens (104.7) (impacts later)

1964 WQXI-FM  94.1 signs back on (it is WKXI and WDJK for a while too)

                WCHK 105.5 signs on in Canton

1965 WAKE becomes WIGO 1340

                WFOX-FM 97.1 signs on in Gainesville

                WRNG signs on 680 AM

                WBIE moves from 1050 to 1080 AM

1968 WREK signs on 91.1

                WGKA-AM moves to 1190     WACX takes over 1600

1970 WAVO becomes WPCH

1971 WRAS signs on 88.5

1972 WGKA becomes WZGC and goes Oldies

                WZOT 107.1 FM in Rockmart GA signs on (impacts later)

1973 WRFG signs on 89.3

1974 WCLK signs on 91.9

                WZGC goes top 40

                WIIN AM-970 goes rock, later AM sister station of 96 Rock (until 1988)

1976 WWID-FM 106.7 goes on

                103.3 becomes WVEE-FM

1982 WRNG/680 becomes WCNN running Headline News (later Stardust)

                AM Stereo rolled out on several AM stations

1983 99.7 becomes WLTA/WRMM/WARM as lite rock

1985 96.7 becomes WBUS "The Bus"

                WFOX 97.1 moves to Atlanta (mainly Oldies)

1986 99.7 becomes  WAPW Power 99

1987 96.7 becomes WMJK Magic 96

                 104.7 becomes lite rock format and moves to Atlanta

1988 WPBD/640 goes on-air

                WCNN/680 goes local news

                Y106/Y104 country combo starts WYAY/106.7 WYAI/104.1

1989 WGST moves from 920 to 640 (920 becomes WAFS)

1990 WCNN/680 goes back to Headline News

                WZOT/Rockmart moves transmitter and becomes transmitter and re-brands as "South  107" WTSH. Moves closer and closer to Atlanta as the years go by.

1991 WCHK/105.5 moves to 105.7 and becomes WGST-FM

1993 WAPW/99.7 becomes WNNX 99X

1994 104.1 becomes Jazz Flavors

1995 97.7 in Griffin moves to ATL on 97.5 as WHTA Hot 97.5

                680 Becomes "The Fan"

1996The Olympics

1997 WKHX/590 becomes Radio Disney WDWD

1998 WAMJ starts on 107.9 later a Jazz Format

1999 95.5 moves back to Atlanta as WBTS "The Beat"

                 106.1 moves into Atlanta as "South 106" WNGC

2000 96.7 becomes WLDA "Wild Atlanta"

                104.1 and 104.7 swap owners and formats 104.1-"Kiss 104"WALR  104.7-"The Fish"-WFSH

                 105.7 becomes WMXV "Mix 105.7"

                 WYAY/106.7 becomes "The Eagle"

2001 WAMJ goes on the air 102.5(forcing WGHR off the air)

                96.7 starts changing formats(5 times) including "The Buzz", by 2007 it is Country

                 Praise FM takes over 97.5

                100.5 FM comes from Anniston to Atlanta WWWQ

                 107.9 moves from Macon and eventually becomes Hot 107.9 WHTA  "Praise FM" takes over 97.5

                XM Satellite Radio sign-On in US. This changes some radio habits. 

2002 WPCH becomes WLTM 94.9

                station from Bowdon GA comes to Atlanta on 105.3 WMAX "'80's Oldies"

                WJTP goes on in Lithia Springs 890 AM

                 Sirius Satellite Radio sign-On in US. This changes some radio habits.

2003 105.7 goes "Cool Oldies" and WFOX becomes "97.1 Jamz"

2004 105.7 goes several format before settling on "The Groove at 105.7" in 2009

                 105.3 goes "Viva" then "Real Radio"then "The Buzz" and by 2009 "El Patron" (Mexican Format)

                 WGKA goes news and moves to 920 (1190 changes formats and settles on business radio in 2010)

                 WZGC becomes "Dave-FM"

2006 1160 WCFO starts "All Business Radio"

                 WKLS becomes "Project 96.1" as an incarnation of "The Buzz"

                 94.9 becomes Country as "The Bull" WUBL     Lite Rock moves to 96.7 until 2007

                The River takes over 97.1 WSRV

                1690 launches and become "Voice of the Arts" WMLB

2007 96.7 becomes 'The Legend" WWLG

                 Sirius and XM US merge

2008 99X passes away. Q100's format moves to 99.7. WNNX/WWWQ swap call letters. 100.5 becomes "Rock 100.5" 99X comes back on HD radio and a translator at 97.9 in 2009

         106.7 goes oldies as "True Oldies Channel"

2009 WPZE "Praise" moves to 102.5  Majic now simulcasts on 107.5/97.5

                105.7 becomes "Groove 105.7"

2010 WSB-AM begins FM Simulcast on 95.5 ("The Beat" comes to an end)

2011 92.9 becomes "The Game"

2012 96.1 becomes Power 96.1

2014 107.1 flips to Alternative
